The 37th Annual Marathon on Kiawah Island is quickly approaching! More than 3,000 runners cross the finish line in both races combined in most years, including more than 2,000 runners who finish the half marathon alone. The course starts near the East Beach Conference Center and takes participants into Vanderhorst Plantation through a combination of oceanside forests, marshlands, and leisurely roadways. The Kiawah Island Marathon and Half Marathon is officially sanctions by the USA Track and Field Organization and both courses are USATF certified.
We have complied a Marathon itinerary for 2014 below – including when and where the Marathon Expos will be held, where to eat before the race and the special events that will be happening just for this weekend!
TWO DAYS BEFORE – THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2014
Night Heron Park Nature Center will be open from 8:30am to 3pm.
Marathon Expo at the East Beach Conference Center from 4pm to 7pm. You will be able to pick up your t-shirts and b-tag / bibs during this time.
THE DAY BEFORE – FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2014
Night Heron Park Nature Center will be open from 8:30am to 3pm.
Marathon Expo at the East Beach Conference Center from 10am to 8:30pm. You will be able to pick up your t-shirts and b-tag / bibs during this time.
T-Shirt Exchange will be located at the East Beach Conference Center in the Colleton Room from 10:30am to 7:30pm.
Pre-Race Bike Tour from 3pm to 4:30pm. Reservations are required. Please visit the Information Desk at the East Beach Conference Center for more information.
Pre-Marathon Kick-Off Celebration will host 4 seatings at the East Beach Conference Center at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm.
1 Mile Glow Run on the beach near the Sanctuary’s access point. Registration starts at 5pm. Run starts at 5:30pm.
MARATHON DAY – SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2014
Are you pumped? Because we are – it’s the day of the 37th Annual Kiawah Island Marathon! Starting at 8am in East Beach Village. For more information visit the event page or go directly to KiawahMarathon.com.
Awards for the half-marathon runners take place at approximately 11:30am under the Finish Line tent. Awards for the full-marathon runners take place at approximately 1:30pm under the Finish Line tent.
MARATHON DAY – WHERE TO EAT?
While the restaurants on Kiawah and in the area will be open for their normal seasonal hours, the following establishments will be opening early and offering something special just for marathon day!
Beaches & Cream at The Sanctuary. Will be opening at 5:30pm for express breakfast and lunch.
Town Center Market Breakfast Buffet. The buffet will be open from 6am to 10am.
Jasmine Porch Marathon Breakfast and Lunch. Breakfast from 6am to 11am. Lunch from 11:30am to 3pm.
The Lobby Lounge at The Sanctuary will be opening early at 12pm. Will be serving micro-brews and light bites until 10pm.
